1984

The beginning

Marshall Furniture logo our story

Our official business name, A.S. Marshall Holdings Pty Ltd, was originally incorporated in 1984 as Marshall Furniture by Anthony Marshall, who grew the business to become one of South Australia’s largest furniture manufacturers.

1997

Handing over the reins

Tony Marshall retired from Marshall Furniture in 1997 and handed the position of Managing Director to his son, Steven.

2001

Global acquisition

In 2001 the business was bought by German multinational furniture manufacturer, Steinhoff International, which subsequently expanded further by acquiring Freedom Furniture.

2005

Commercial office furniture manufacture remained

Steinhoff logo

By 2005, Steinhoff International had sent all residential furniture manufacturing offshore and what remained was a unique commercial office furniture manufacturer, then known as Steinhoff Furniture; the exclusive workstation manufacturer for the Interlink Group (later rebranded to UCI Australia).

2008

Management Buyout

In 2008 Steinhoff International chose to cease all manufacturing in Australia and a management buyout of A.S. Marshall Holdings took place. The business was re-branded as UCI Manufacturing after forming an exclusive supply partnership with UCI Australia to manufacture commercial office furniture for all UCI sales offices in Australia.

2019

Triple ISO certification

UCI Manufacturing later became Australia’s first commercial office manufacturer to achieve triple ISO certification in 2019. They received ISO 9001 certification in 2005 and ISO 14001 certification in 2006, then Triple certified in 2019—just one of many industry-leading developments achieved by the organisation.

2024

Rebrand to ASM Manufacturing

ASM manufacturing logo

2024, the A.S. Marshall Holdings board made a strategic decision to rebrand the business ASM Manufacturing – A subtle homage to the organisation’s 40-year plus South Australian manufacturing heritage. ASM also draws inspiration from the acronym Australian Sustainable Manufacturing – An accurate representation of who we are and what we stand for.
